The classical moment problem and generalized indefinite strings

چکیده
We show that the classical Hamburger moment problem can be included in the spectral theory of generalized indefinite strings. Namely, we introduce the class of Krein–Langer strings and show that there is a bijective correspondence between moment sequences and this class of generalized indefinite strings. This result can be viewed as a complement to the classical results of M. G. Krein on the connection between the Stieltjes moment problem and Krein–Stieltjes strings and I. S. Kac on the connection between the Hamburger moment problem and 2 × 2 canonical systems with Hamburger Hamiltonians.

The inverse spectral problem for indefinite strings
Motivated by the study of certain nonlinear wave equations (in particular, the Camassa–Holm equation), we introduce a new class of generalized indefinite strings associated with differential equations of the form −u′′ = z uω + zuυ on an interval [0, L), where ω is a real-valued distribution in H−1 loc [0, L), υ is a non-negative Borel measure on [0, L) and z is a complex spectral parameter. متن کاملSpectral asymptotics for canonical systems
Based on continuity properties of the de Branges correspondence, we develop a new approach to study the high-energy behavior of Weyl–Titchmarsh and spectral functions of 2×2 first order canonical systems. Our results improve several classical results and solve open problems posed by previous authors. Furthermore, they are applied to radial Dirac and radial Schrödinger operators as well as to Kr...
متن کاملAn isospectral problem for global conservative multi-peakon solutions of the Camassa–Holm equation
We introduce a generalized isospectral problem for global conservative multi-peakon solutions of the Camassa–Holm equation. Utilizing the solution of the indefinite moment problem given by M. G. Krein and H. Langer, we show that the conservative Camassa–Holm equation is integrable by the inverse spectral transform in the multi-peakon case.
متن کاملGeneralized Thermoelastic Problem of a Thick Circular Plate with Axisymmetric Heat Supply Due to Internal Heat Generation
A two dimensional generalized thermoelastic problem of a thick circular plate of finite thickness and infinite extent subjected to continuous axisymmetric heat supply and an internal heat generation is studied within the context of generalized thermoelasticity. Unified system of equations for classical coupled thermoelasticity, Lord-Shulman and Green-Lindsay theory is considered. An exact solut...

We study a stepwise algorithm for solving the indefinite truncated moment problem and obtain the factorization of the matrix describing the solution of this problem into elementary factors. We consider the generalized Jacobi matrix corresponding to Magnus’ continuous P -fraction that appears in this algorithm and the polynomials of the first and second kind that are solutions of the correspondi...
